The Teatro at Montecasino
Going to the theatre has a new air of wonder and mystery at the spectacular new Teatro at Montecasino, which opened its doors in May 2007 with the international stage
phenomenon, The Lion King.
The Teatro is the only true lyric theatre in South Africa, acoustically designed for large scale musical productions and it can accommodate 1 870 people at full capacity. Despite the vast number of seats, the Teatro has an unmistakable intimacy and no seat is further than 30 metres from the stage. Martin McCallum, renowned international theatre consultant and designer and president of the Society of London Theatre, directed the design of the theatre. He visualised a lyric theatre that will bring new life into Gauteng's live arts industry and meet the highest standards for world-class live shows.

The Teatro is headed by its General Manager, Bryan Hill, a well-known figure in the theatre industry. The small but highly skilled team of technical, front-of-house and back-of-house theatre staff ensure that the Teatro is geared to handle 1 870 through its doors at every performance.
